A
mezmerising landscape unfolded as we travelled southeast from Ait Ben
Haddou to Zagora. It was a journey of two halves, the first took us
over the Anti Atlas Mountains, through the Tizi-n-Tinififft pass at
1660m to Agdz.

with its deep ravines
and gorges
Jebel Kissane, a middle earth film set
The
second part of the journey from Agdz took us through the Drâa
valley, a 100km swath of lush palm trees which are ladened with dates
at this time of year. This is part of the route to Timbuktu that the
trans-Saharan caravans used to take.

On
arrival at our campsite we were welcomed with mint tea and treated to
a Berber Medfouna, a spicy filled flatbread cooked in front of us
using dried palm leaves to heat the griddle. A tasty finish to the
day.
Also known as Berber Pizza
