Wednesday 30 September
The rough road south to Safi was a long and bumpy ride along the coast, stopping off along the way at the old Portuguese port of El Jadida.

Apart from being a major industrial port, Safi is also an ancient pottery centre because of the fine clays that are abundant in this area.

The rough and bumpy road south continued along the coast to our final destination for the day at a town called Essaouira.

The most unexpected sight along this beautiful Atlantic surf coast was that apart from pneumatic tyres it might as well have been a biblical scene that passed us by during our journey. Horses, mules and donkeys appear to be the powerhouses of these rural communities. Not a camel in sight, they appear to be working in the tourist industry.
